Origin and Habitat:

Mammillaria bocasana originates from the mountainous regions of San Luis Potosí in central Mexico. It inhabits rocky slopes, dry grasslands, and open scrublands, where plants grow in shallow, well-drained soils among grasses and scattered rocks. These environments experience seasonal rainfall, warm summers, and relatively cool winters. The rosea selection is associated with horticultural forms valued for their pinkish floral colouring and attractive spination, rather than a separately documented natural distribution.

Description:

Mammillaria bocasana var. rosea is a compact, clustering cactus forming rounded to short cylindrical stems approximately 2–5" tall and 2–3" in diameter. The green body is densely covered with fine, silky white hairs and slender radial spines, accompanied by longer central spines that may be reddish-brown or hooked. Mature plants produce delicate pink to rosy-pink flowers around the crown during spring. With age, numerous basal offsets develop, forming soft-looking clusters. Flower colour and spine characteristics may vary among seed-grown plants.
