Oxalis is genus of plants comprising over 550 species. The genus occurs throughout most of the world, except for the polar areas; species diversity is particularly rich in tropical Brazil, Mexico and South Africa. The genus comprises of many hardy and tender species. Collectors may find that both hardy and tender are of interest. Many species have very attractive foliage and are topped with a spectacular show of flowers.

Hardy Oxalis are great for the rock garden with a number of tidy species that will give an early showing of flowers. Shady locations have a number of freely ranging species that can become invasive in certain situations.

Tender Oxalis are well suited for pot culture and will remain small. These plants are generally winter growers and have a huge range of flower colors.

This is an diverse and interesting genus with the only drawback of not being very easy to acquire.
