Glandulicactus - Sclerocactus
Sclerocactus and Glandulicactus are closely related genera of slow-growing desert cacti native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Historically, species of Glandulicactus were included within Sclerocactus, although modern botanical classifications often recognize them as separate genera. Both groups are prized for their compact, globular to cylindrical bodies, distinctive straight or hooked spines, and attractive flowers in shades of yellow, pink, purple, and deep maroon. These cacti inhabit rocky desert slopes, grasslands, and arid plateaus, where they endure drought and considerable seasonal temperature fluctuations. Their unusual spination, specialized growing requirements, and ornamental appeal make them highly desirable among collectors of rare North American cacti.
