Origin and Habitat
Echeveria 'Rain Drops' is a cultivated hybrid developed for its distinctive ornamental foliage. Unlike naturally occurring species, it does not have a wild habitat. This unique cultivar is prized by collectors for the raised, water droplet-like bumps that form on the upper surface of its leaves, giving the rosette an eye-catching sculptural appearance. It is well suited to containers, dish gardens, windowsills, patios, and succulent collections where its unusual texture can be appreciated year-round.
Description
One of the most sought-after hybrid Echeverias, 'Rain Drops' forms a symmetrical rosette of thick blue-green leaves with soft pink margins when grown in bright light. Mature leaves develop rounded raised bumps resembling raindrops, creating an exceptional architectural effect. Rosettes typically grow 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) wide and may produce tall flower stalks bearing orange to coral blooms in late winter through spring.
Cultivation
Zone: 9–11
Temperature: Protect from frost; best grown above 5°C.
Growth Rate: Slow to moderate.
Soil: Fast-draining cactus and succulent mix amended with pumice.
Watering: Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry. Reduce watering during winter.
Fertilizing: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted cactus fertilizer.
Light: Bright light to full sun. Strong light enhances leaf color and promotes well-developed "raindrop" bumps.
Pests and Diseases: Watch for mealybugs, aphids, and root rot caused by excessive moisture.
Propagation
Propagation is typically by offsets or stem cuttings. Leaf propagation is possible but may be slower and less reliable than with many other Echeveria hybrids
