The genus Sempervivum originates from the mountainous regions of Europe, including the Alps, Balkans, and Carpathians, where plants grow in rocky crevices and well-drained alpine soils. These habitats are characterized by intense sunlight, cold winters, and low nutrient availability. ‘Colorockz® Coral Red’ is a cultivated selection bred for its vivid coloration and compact growth. Like its alpine ancestors, it is highly tolerant of drought, wind, and freezing temperatures, making it well suited for rock gardens, containers, and exposed landscapes.
Description:
Sempervivum ‘Colorockz® Coral Red’ forms tight, symmetrical rosettes measuring 3–5 inches in diameter, spreading to 8–12 inches wide through offsets. The fleshy, pointed leaves display rich coral-red to deep reddish tones, often with subtle green undertones near the base. Color intensifies in full sun and cooler weather. Over time, the plant produces dense clusters of rosettes, creating a vibrant, textured mat. In summer, mature rosettes may send up a short flower stalk bearing star-shaped pink flowers, after which the individual rosette dies and is replaced by offsets.
