Accepted Scientific Name: Aloinopsis malherbei

Origin and Habitat:
Native to South Africa, Aloinopsis malherbei thrives in arid, rocky regions with extreme temperature fluctuations. It is well adapted to sandy, well-drained soils and receives minimal rainfall. This slow-growing succulent is commonly found in the Northern Cape, where it survives by storing water in its thick, textured leaves and developing deep roots.

Description:
Aloinopsis malherbei is a compact, low-growing succulent with thick, gray-green, wart-like leaves that form rosettes up to 4 inches (10 cm) wide. The textured foliage helps with water retention and sun protection. In winter, it produces daisy-like flowers in shades of bright yellow to orange, opening in the afternoon.

Cultivation:
Zone: Suitable for USDA Zones 9-11.
Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 10-35°C but can tolerate brief periods of near-freezing conditions.
Growth Rate: Slow-growing but long-lived under optimal conditions.

Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering in cooler months.
Fertilizing: Apply a diluted succulent fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.
Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade; strong light enhances leaf texture and coloration.
Pests and Diseases: Susceptible to mealybugs and root rot if overwatered; ensure good airflow and drainage.
