The habitat experiences extreme temperature variations, intense sun exposure, and infrequent rainfall. This variety has adapted to these conditions by developing dense woolly areoles and a deep root system, allowing it to store water efficiently and endure prolonged drought.
Description:
A small, globular to slightly cylindrical cactus, Erioscyce taltalensis var. floccosa grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall and 3 inches (8 cm) in diameter. The dark green to bluish stem is covered in dense white wool, especially around the areoles, giving it a distinctive appearance. Sharp, rigid spines emerge from the woolly areoles, varying in color from yellowish to black. In spring, the plant produces bright yellow to pale orange flowers, often with a darker center. The funnel-shaped blooms contrast beautifully against the wool-covered body, making this variety highly desirable for collectors.
