Accepted Scientific Name: Trichocereus bridgesii

Origin and Habitat:
Trichocereus bridgesii, also known as Bolivian Torch Cactus, is native to the high-altitude regions of Bolivia, where it thrives in arid, rocky soils. It is well adapted to extreme temperature fluctuations, surviving both intense sunlight and occasional cold nights. The species is commonly found in dry valleys and mountain slopes, where its deep root system helps it access limited water sources.

Description:
This hybrid cultivar, Ellenen x Malo4, retains the columnar growth of Trichocereus bridgesii, reaching heights of up to 10 feet (300 cm) and widths of 4–6 inches (10–15 cm). It features well-spaced, prominent ribs lined with long, sharp spines that provide protection from herbivores. During the blooming season, it produces large, fragrant white flowers that open at night, attracting nocturnal pollinators.

Cultivation:
Zone: Hardy in USDA zones 8–11.
Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures but can tolerate down to -5°C with dry soil.
Growth Rate: Fast-growing under optimal conditions.
Soil: Requires well-draining soil with pumice for aeration and moisture control.
Watering: Water deeply but infrequently; allow soil to dry completely between waterings.
Fertilizing: Apply diluted cactus fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth.
Light: Thrives in full sun but tolerates partial shade.
Pests and Diseases: Generally pest-resistant but can be affected by mealybugs, spider mites, and fungal infections in overly wet conditions.

Propagation:
Propagation is done through cuttings or seeds. Cuttings should be allowed to callous before planting to prevent rot.
