Pot Size:  1 Gal

Accepted Scientific Name:  Agave polianthiflora

Origin and Habitat:
Agave polianthiflora is native to the arid regions of northwestern Mexico, particularly in Sonora and Chihuahua. It thrives in rocky slopes and dry, open scrublands at elevations ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 meters. This species is adapted to extreme drought conditions and relies on its compact rosette structure to conserve water and survive in harsh desert environments.

Description:
Agave polianthiflora forms a small, delicate rosette measuring 8 to 10 inches in diameter. Its slender, green leaves are tipped with white, thread-like filaments, creating a striking and airy appearance. During its blooming phase, it produces a tall flowering stalk up to 40 inches high, adorned with tubular, reddish-pink flowers that attract pollinators like hummingbirds.

Cultivation:
Zone: 9–11
Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 15°C and 35°C but can tolerate brief cold snaps down to -4°C.
Growth Rate: Slow-growing, making it an excellent choice for containers or rock gardens.
Soil: Requires well-draining soil; a mix with pumice ensures optimal drainage.
Watering: Water sparingly; allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Overwatering may cause root rot.
Fertilizing: Apply a diluted liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season for best results.
Light: Full sun all day with a little shade late afternoon.
Pests and Diseases: Susceptible to mealybugs, scale insects, and fungal diseases if overwatered. Monitor and treat promptly.

Propagation:
Propagates through seeds or offsets. Seeds should be sown on the surface of well-draining soil and kept warm and slightly moist for germination. Offsets can be carefully separated and planted in their own pots once they develop roots.
