Oroya
This small genre is primarily found in the high lands of Peru and derive their name from the Peruvian town La Oroya where they were first found. These cacti are restively small and rarely get larger than 8”. Oroya’s are heavily spined. These spines are typically bright yellow or reddish brown and create an unexpectedly striking appearance. These guys grow at considerable altitude, 3000-4700 meters, and can be found growing with Oreocereus and other high elevation cacti.
