Agave
The 450 species of this family are natives to the Americas and West Indies and live from the coast to mountain slopes. They can range in size from 6” across to 15’ giants. Agaves trade mark is the razor sharp spine that tips each leaf. This in conjunction with numerous spines down the length of each leaf make this a no nonsense house plant. Agaves are incredibly drought tolerant and can handle the hottest and driest conditions. Many species come from high elevation and are very cold tolerant. Agaves are very fast growing and have huge roots bases so they do require large pots to thrive. With the huge array of cultivars and variegated species this family has something for everyone.
