Pot Size: 4.5"

Accepted Scientific Name: Heuchera ‘Zipper’

Origin and Habitat:
Heuchera ‘Zipper’ is a hybrid cultivar derived from North American species that naturally inhabit woodland edges, rocky slopes, and well-drained forest margins. These habitats provide consistent moisture, humus-rich soils, and filtered light conditions. Bred for its bold texture and vibrant coloration, this selection performs well in both garden beds and containers, offering strong seasonal interest and adaptability across a range of temperate climates.

Description:
Forms a vigorous, clump-forming mound approximately 10–14 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide. The foliage is deeply ruffled and heavily textured, with serrated edges that give a “zipped” appearance. Leaves emerge in warm orange tones, maturing to rich red with contrasting lighter veins that accentuate the leaf structure. In early to mid-summer, slender stems rise above the foliage carrying clusters of small, bell-shaped creamy white flowers that provide contrast and attract pollinators.

Cultivation:
Zone: 4–9
Temperature: -34°C to 30°C
Growth rate: Moderate to vigorous, forming full clumps over time
Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil amended with organic matter and pumice for improved aeration
Watering: Maintain evenly moist soil during the growing season; avoid prolonged dryness or waterlogging
Fertilizing: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth
Light: Partial shade is ideal; tolerates some sun, which can intensify foliage color in cooler climates
Pests and diseases: Generally low maintenance; may occasionally encounter vine weevil or minor fungal issues in poorly drained soil

Propagation:
Divide mature clumps in early spring or fall, ensuring each section contains healthy roots and shoots before replanting.
