Ferocactus schwarzii is native to northwestern Mexico, where it grows in desert valleys and rocky hillsides with well-drained soils. Plants are adapted to harsh desert conditions, developing strong ribbing and protective spines to reduce water loss and withstand exposure.
Description:
A tall, columnar to barrel-shaped cactus reaching 24–40 inches in height and 10–18 inches in diameter over time. It features numerous ribs lined with dense clusters of straight to slightly curved spines in shades of yellow to brown. Mature plants produce yellow to pale orange flowers at the crown, adding seasonal interest.
