Pot Size: 1 gal

Accepted Scientific Name:
Eryngium 'Blue Hobbit'

Origin and Habitat:
Eryngium 'Blue Hobbit' is a compact cultivar derived from species native to dry, rocky grasslands and coastal regions of Europe and the Mediterranean. These areas are characterized by full sun exposure, poor, well-draining soils, and minimal rainfall. The parent plants are adapted to tough environments, often growing in open, exposed locations with intense heat and wind, making them well-suited to xeriscaping and rock gardens. 'Blue Hobbit' was selected for its dwarf size and vivid color, ideal for containers and small-space gardens.

Description:
Eryngium 'Blue Hobbit' is a dwarf sea holly, reaching only 6–8 inches in height and width. It forms a tight rosette of spiny, blue-green leaves, topped in summer by metallic blue, cone-shaped flower heads surrounded by silvery-blue bracts. These thistle-like blooms are striking, long-lasting, and highly attractive to pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies. Its sculptural form and vivid coloring make it a standout in rock gardens and border edges.

Cultivation:

Temperature: Tolerates down to -23°C
Growth rate: Moderate
Soil: Well-draining soil amended with pumice
Watering: Low water needs; allow soil to dry out between watering
