Hetchia - Dyckia - Abromeitella
Hetchia, Dyckia and Abromeitella are all terrestrial Bromeliads. Even though these plants are not succulents (they do not store water in their tissue) they have very similar growing requirements as do Cacti and Succulents. This has led them to be included in many collections. All three have many species in nature with Dyckia having a large number of cultivars. These cultivars often have great spineation and come in an array of fantastic colors. Hetchia are native to southern USA through Mexico. Dyckia and Abromeitella call South America home with a large number of species in Brazil.
If spines are your thing these are great plants. They are very easy in cultivation and require no special care. Many of the Dyckia cultivars offer a a great selection of spines and color.
