Pot Size: 3.5"
Accepted Scientific Name:
Sempervivum SUPERSEMPS® ‘Rose Quartz’
Origin and Habitat:
Sempervivum SUPERSEMPS® ‘Rose Quartz’ is a hybrid cultivar derived from Sempervivum species native to mountainous regions of Europe and Asia. They are adapted to thrive in rocky, well-drained soils where they endure harsh conditions, including extreme cold and drought. This hybrid has been cultivated for enhanced color and form, making it ideal for ornamental gardens and containers.
Description:
Sempervivum SUPERSEMPS® ‘Rose Quartz’ forms a striking rosette that grows 2 to 3 inches tall and 4 to 8 inches wide. Its fleshy leaves are tinged with soft pinks, reds, and silvery hues that resemble rose quartz, giving it its name. The edges of the leaves may display a subtle frost-like appearance. During the growing season, it produces tall stems with small, star-shaped pink flowers that add a delightful touch to its unique form.
Cultivation:
Zone: 4-9
Temperature: -20 to 25°C
Growth rate: Moderate
Soil: Well-draining pumice-based soil
Watering: Allow soil to dry completely between waterings; drought-tolerant once established
Fertilizing: Apply a diluted fertilizer once a month during spring and summer
Light: Prefers light shade to full sun, with morning sun being optimal
Pests and diseases: Generally pest-resistant; watch for aphids and rot if overwatered
Propagation:
Sempervivum SUPERSEMPS® ‘Rose Quartz’ is easily propagated through offsets. Detach the small rosettes (chicks) from the main plant (hen) and replant them in a well-draining soil mix. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to promote root establishment.
