Pot Size: 3.5"

Accepted Scientific Name:
Sempervivum 'Rienhard'

Origin and Habitat:
Sempervivum 'Rienhard' is a cultivated variety derived from alpine Sempervivum species native to the mountainous regions of central Europe, especially the Alps and Pyrenees. These regions are characterized by rocky outcrops, sharp drainage, and wide seasonal temperature swings. Bred for ornamental use, 'Rienhard' thrives in similar tough environments, including container gardens and rockeries, where it mimics the resilience and adaptability of its high-altitude ancestors. Its ability to grow in nutrient-poor, mineral-rich soils makes it a favorite among collectors of hardy succulents.

Description:
Sempervivum 'Rienhard' forms medium-sized, symmetrical rosettes ranging from 3 to 4 inches in diameter. The leaves are tightly packed, lance-shaped, and transition in color from deep green at the base to reddish-purple at the tips, especially in cooler weather. In mid to late summer, mature rosettes send up tall stalks that bear star-shaped, pinkish-red flowers. After blooming, the flowering rosette dies, allowing space for surrounding offsets to thrive.

Cultivation:
Zone: USDA Hardiness Zones 5 to 8
Temperature: Tolerant of -28°C to 30°C
Growth Rate: Moderate
Soil: Requires sharply draining soil with pumice for aeration and moisture control
Watering: Water thoroughly when soil is completely dry; avoid watering in excess to prevent root rot
Fertilizing: Feed with diluted balanced fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during the growing season
Light: Full sun preferred for vivid coloration; tolerates partial shade
Pests and Diseases: Generally pest-free, but may attract aphids or suffer from root rot if overwatered

Propagation:
Propagated easily by separating offsets from the mother rosette and replanting in well-drained soil.
