Parodia - Notocactus
The Parodia-Notocactus group includes a diverse and colorful range of small, globular to short-columnar cacti native to South America, primarily found in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Bolivia. These species, once classified separately, have been merged under the genus Parodia, though many growers still use the familiar name Notocactus. These cacti are prized for their manageable size, attractive spination, and brilliant spring and summer flowers that range from yellow and orange to pink and red. Typically growing in grasslands or rocky outcrops, they are adapted to well-draining soils and strong sunlight. Ideal for container cultivation, they require dry winters and regular moisture during their active growth phase. Their compact form and striking blooms make them excellent additions to rock gardens and cactus collections, with both horticultural and scientific appeal.
