Origin and Habitat:
Native to southern Namibia and the Northern Cape of South Africa, Lithops hallii occurs on gravelly, quartz-rich flats where it blends seamlessly with pale stones. The var. ochracea ‘Green Soapstone’ form (C111A) is distinguished by its unusual green-grey tones, blending into soapstone-like rocks in habitat. Rainfall is scarce and erratic, encouraging seasonal growth patterns synchronized with summer and autumn showers.

Description:
Small, paired leaves form compact bodies about 1–1.5 inches across and 1 inch high. Surfaces are greenish-grey with ochre to brown markings, flat-topped, and lightly windowed. In autumn, daisy-like yellow flowers emerge, often equaling or exceeding the body size.

Cultivation:
Zone: 10–11.
Temperature: 18–27°C preferred, tolerates 5°C when dry.
Growth Rate: Slow.
Soil: Very well-drained pumice soil.
Watering: Sparing during growth; dry during leaf renewal.
Fertilizing: Diluted fertilizer every 2–3 weeks while growing.
Light: Bright light to full sun, with heat protection if intense.
Pests and Diseases: Root mealybugs and rot risk from overwatering.
