Origin and Habitat:
Native to southern Namibia, Lithops francisci is restricted to quartz plains and gravel flats where its body color mirrors surrounding stones. The C140 population exhibits grey to tan tones with fine red markings, providing excellent camouflage. Rainfall is very low and irregular, dictating strict growth and dormancy cycles.

Description:
This small species forms 1–1.2 inch wide bodies with paired leaves, grey to beige with intricate reddish patterns. The fissure is relatively narrow. Flowers appear in autumn, bright yellow, daisy-like, and striking against the muted body color.

Cultivation:
Zone: 10–11.
Temperature: Ideal 18–27°C, tolerates to 5°C if dry.
Growth Rate: Slow.
Soil: Pumice-based, sharply draining.
Watering: Sparingly in growth, none during replacement of old leaves.
Fertilizing: Use weak fertilizer every 2–3 weeks while active.
Light: Bright light to full sun.
Pests and Diseases: Risk of root mealybugs and rot with poor drainage.

Propagation:
By seed, division of clusters possible with maturity.
