Pot Size: 3"
Accepted Scientific Name:
Lithodora diffusa ‘Variegata’
Origin and Habitat
Lithodora diffusa is native to the Mediterranean regions of southwestern Europe, particularly Portugal and Spain. It typically grows in rocky slopes, forest margins, and open scrubland with well-drained, acidic soils. This low-growing evergreen thrives in environments with mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. The variegated cultivar, ‘Variegata’, was selected for ornamental use and is prized for its contrasting foliage and vivid flower color. It adapts well to rock gardens, borders, and containers in temperate climates.
Description
Lithodora diffusa ‘Variegata’ is a low-spreading, evergreen perennial reaching 6 to 10 inches in height and spreading up to 24 inches wide. It forms a dense mat of small, lance-shaped leaves with creamy white to yellow margins and green centers. From late spring into summer, the plant is covered in intensely blue, star-shaped flowers about ½ inch across. The combination of striking blue blooms and variegated foliage creates strong visual appeal in garden settings.
