Pot Size: 2.5"
Accepted Scientific Name:
Haworthia truncata hybrid
Origin and Habitat:
Haworthia truncata hybrids originate from the species native to South Africa, specifically arid and semi-arid regions. These plants are typically found in rocky areas with well-draining soils, thriving in the crevices of rocks where water availability is limited. Adapted to survive drought conditions, they often receive bright but filtered sunlight and minimal rainfall, making them highly resilient and suited for dry environments. Hybrids, bred for ornamental value, enhance the unique characteristics of the species.
Description:
The Haworthia truncata hybrid grows to about 3 inches in height and 4 to 6 inches in width. Its distinct truncate leaves form a compact, fan-like rosette. The leaves are fleshy and textured, often displaying vibrant green tones with varying patterns and translucent edges. Under stress, leaves may develop reddish or bronze hues, adding further visual interest. Occasionally, the plant produces small, tubular flowers, typically white or pale pink, on slender inflorescences, contrasting beautifully with the foliage.
Cultivation:
Zone: 10-11
Temperature: Best grown at 12°C -25°C, not lower then 5°C.
Growth rate: Slow
Soil: Well-draining pumice-based soil
Watering: Allow soil to dry completely between waterings; water thoroughly but sparingly
Fertilizing: Once a month during spring and summer
Light: Prefers light shade with gentle morning sun
Pests and diseases: Watch for mealybugs, aphids, and root rot; avoid overwatering to maintain plant health
Propagation:
Haworthia truncata hybrids propagate easily through offsets or leaf cuttings. For offsets, gently detach and replant in well-draining soil. For leaf cuttings, allow the cut edge to callous over before planting. Keep the soil lightly moist until new roots establish.
