Pot Size: 3.5"

Accepted Scientific Name: Epiphyllum 'Princess Kelly'

Origin and Habitat:
Epiphyllum hybrids trace their lineage to tropical rainforest regions of Central and South America, where parent species grow as epiphytes on trees and occasionally on rocks. In these habitats, they benefit from high humidity, dappled light, and organic debris that nourishes their roots. Naturally adapted to thrive in shaded, well-ventilated environments, they rely on seasonal rainfall and warm temperatures for growth and flowering. 'Princess Kelly' continues this legacy of vibrant hybrid breeding, well suited to cultivation in containers, hanging baskets, or protected gardens in temperate regions.

Description:
Epiphyllum 'Princess Kelly' is an elegant hybrid with flat, arching stems that reach 18–24 inches long. Its flowers are broad and showy, often 6–8 inches across, featuring a intense solid yellow becoming slightly darker at the outer petals. The blooms are funnel-shaped, multi-petaled, and slightly recurved, giving a dramatic starburst effect. This hybrid is particularly admired for its cascading form and spectacular blossoms that bring exotic beauty indoors or outdoors in sheltered environments.

Cultivation:
Zone: Best grown in Zones 10–11; in cooler climates, keep as a houseplant or greenhouse specimen.
Temperature: Ideal range 15–27°C; protect from frost and cold drafts, avoiding temperatures below 5°C.
Growth rate: Moderate with warmth, humidity, and proper care.
Soil: Use an airy, organic medium mixed with pumice for drainage and aeration.
Watering: Water thoroughly when the top layer of soil begins to dry, reducing frequency in winter dormancy.
Fertilizing: Feed every 2–3 weeks during active growth and bloom cycles with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or filtered light; avoid prolonged exposure to harsh direct sun.
Pests and diseases: May occasionally be affected by mealybugs, aphids, scale insects, or fungal issues related to excess moisture.

Propagation:
Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callus before planting in well-draining soil.
