Pot Size: 3.5"

Accepted Scientific Name: Epiphyllum 'Cindy Jane'

Origin and Habitat:
Epiphyllum hybrids are derived from tropical epiphytic cacti native to the rainforests of Central and South America. In their natural environment, these plants grow attached to trees or rocks, drawing moisture and nutrients from rain, decaying organic matter, and humid air. The parent species thrive in shaded, moist understories, where filtered sunlight and high humidity encourage lush stem development and abundant flowering. 'Cindy Jane' retains these adaptations, making it well suited for greenhouse, indoor, or sheltered outdoor cultivation in temperate regions.

Description:
Epiphyllum 'Cindy Jane' is a striking hybrid with flat, segmented stems reaching 18–24 inches long. Its flowers are exceptionally beautiful, measuring 6–8 inches across, with an intense red orange outer petals becoming tinged with pink purple coloration towards the center.   With its cascading stem habit and large blossoms, this hybrid is highly valued for decorative use in hanging baskets and containers.

Cultivation:
Zone: Suitable for Zones 10–11; grow indoors or under protection in cooler climates.
Temperature: Optimal range is 15–27°C; protect from frost and avoid prolonged exposure below 5°C.
Growth rate: Moderate when provided with warmth and humidity.
Soil: Use a well-draining organic mix enriched with pumice for aeration and root stability.
Watering: Keep soil lightly moist during active growth; allow slight drying between waterings. Reduce watering in winter dormancy.
Fertilizing: Apply balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during the growing and flowering season.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or filtered light; avoid direct harsh rays that can scorch stems.
Pests and diseases: May be affected by mealybugs, scale, aphids, and fungal rot if overwatered or poorly ventilated.

Propagation:
Propagated easily from stem cuttings. Allow cut surfaces to callus before planting in a well-draining soil mix.
