Epiphyllum
Epiphyllum, commonly known as orchid cacti, are tropical epiphytic succulents belonging to the Cactaceae family. Native to the humid, shaded forests of Central and South America, these plants naturally grow on tree trunks and branches, absorbing moisture and nutrients from organic debris. Characterized by their flattened, leaf-like stems and spectacular nocturnal or diurnal blooms, Epiphyllum species and hybrids are highly prized for their large, fragrant flowers in a range of vivid colors, including white, pink, red, yellow, and orange. These cacti require well-draining, organic-rich soil and benefit from filtered light and moderate humidity, making them excellent candidates for hanging baskets or mounted displays in indoor and greenhouse environments. Their flowering period, often in spring or early summer, adds a dramatic and exotic flair to any collection.
