Accepted Scientific Name:

Echeveria 'Perle von Nürnberg'

Origin and Habitat:

A hybrid succulent, Echeveria 'Perle von Nürnberg' was created by crossing Echeveria gibbiflora and Echeveria elegans. This cultivar was developed in Germany and has become one of the most popular ornamental Echeverias. While not naturally occurring in the wild, its parent species originate from Mexico’s semi-arid regions, where they grow in rocky soils with ample sunlight. Adapted to drought conditions, it thrives in well-draining environments, making it suitable for both outdoor gardens and indoor containers.

Description:

Echeveria 'Perle von Nürnberg' forms a beautiful rosette up to 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter. Its broad, slightly curved leaves have a smooth, powdery coating that gives them a soft, pastel purple to pink hue with subtle blue-gray undertones. The coloration deepens under bright sunlight. In summer, it produces arching flower stalks up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall, bearing small, bell-shaped, coral-pink flowers with yellow interiors, attracting bees and hummingbirds.

Cultivation:

Zone: Suitable for USDA zones 9-11.
Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 15°C and 30°C; protect from frost.
Growth Rate: Moderate, forming clusters over time.
Soil: Requires well-draining soil with pumice for aeration and moisture control.
Watering: Water deeply when the soil is completely dry; reduce watering in winter.
Fertilizing: Apply a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during active growth.
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight to full sun; partial shade in extreme heat.
Pests and Diseases: Susceptible to mealybugs, aphids, and root rot from excess moisture; ensure proper airflow and drainage.

Propagation:

Propagated through leaf cuttings, stem cuttings, or offsets. Allow cuttings to dry before planting in well-draining soil.
