Accepted Scientific Name
Echeveria ‘Dark Vader’

Origin and Habitat
Echeveria ‘Dark Vader’ is a hybrid cultivar derived from species native to Mexico and Central America. These regions are characterized by rocky, sun-drenched landscapes with minimal rainfall. This hybrid inherits the resilience and adaptability of its parent species, thriving in well-draining soil and arid conditions. It has become a popular choice for succulent collectors and garden enthusiasts, admired for its dramatic coloring and unique form.

Description
Echeveria ‘Dark Vader’ forms a striking rosette that grows up to 6 inches in diameter. The fleshy leaves are dark purple to nearly black, with a matte finish that adds depth and drama. When exposed to full sun, the dark tones deepen, creating a bold visual contrast. In summer, it produces tall stalks with small, star-shaped flowers in vivid orange or red, adding a bright pop of color.

Cultivation
Zone: Suitable for USDA zones 9–11.
Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 10°C and 30°C. Protect from frost and avoid exposure below 4°C.
Growth Rate: Moderate, with occasional offsets forming around the base.
Soil: Requires well-draining soil, enhanced with pumice to improve aeration and prevent root rot.
Watering: Use the soak-and-dry method, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering during dormancy in winter.
Fertilizing: Feed every 2–3 weeks during the growing season with a diluted succulent fertilizer. Avoid fertilizing during dormancy.
Light: Prefers full sun, which enhances the dark coloration of the leaves. Can tolerate bright indirect light but with less intense coloration.
Pests and Diseases: Susceptible to mealybugs, aphids, and fungal issues if overwatered. Regularly inspect and maintain proper care to prevent infestations or diseases.

Propagation
Echeveria ‘Dark Vader’ is easily propagated through leaf cuttings or offsets.
