Astrophytum cv. 'Kikko Rampo'

Origin and Habitat:

Astrophytum cv. 'Kikko Rampo' is a cultivated hybrid developed through selective breeding of Astrophytum myriostigma and other Astrophytum species. While its exact natural habitat does not exist, its parent species originate from the arid regions of Mexico, where they grow in rocky, well-draining soils with minimal rainfall. This hybrid has been bred for its striking geometric ridges and textured appearance, making it a sought-after collector’s plant.

Description:

This unique hybrid features a small, rounded body that grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter. Unlike typical Astrophytum species, 'Kikko Rampo' has exaggerated, angular tubercles that create a striking, armored appearance. Its surface is covered in fine, white speckling, enhancing its ornamental value. The plant is spineless, and in late spring to summer, it produces large, yellow, funnel-shaped flowers with an orange center, providing a vivid contrast to its geometric structure.
