Accepted Scientific Name: Aloe broomii
Origin and Habitat:
Aloe broomii is native to the high-altitude grasslands and rocky slopes of the Free State and Lesotho regions in South Africa. It typically grows at elevations ranging from 1,300 to 2,300 meters, where it thrives in well-drained, mineral-rich soils with full sunlight and limited rainfall. The plant has adapted to seasonal temperature shifts and survives dry winters and summer rainfall. It is often found in open, exposed locations, making it well-suited to arid and semi-arid environments.
Description:
Aloe broomii, commonly known as the "Snake Aloe," is a striking, stemless succulent that forms dense rosettes up to 2 feet (60 cm) in diameter and reaches up to 3 feet (90 cm) in height. The fleshy, light green leaves are edged with reddish-brown teeth, giving a fierce, sculptural look. In spring to early summer, it produces a tall, candle-like inflorescence with densely packed, pale yellow to creamy white tubular flowers that attract pollinators.
