Pot Size: 3.5"

Accepted Scientific Name: Aeonium ‘Medusa’

Origin and Habitat:
Aeonium ‘Medusa’ is a cultivated hybrid, likely derived from species native to the Canary Islands and surrounding regions. In their natural habitat, Aeonium species grow on rocky volcanic slopes, cliffs, and coastal areas with minimal rainfall but high humidity from ocean mists. The hybrid inherits its tolerance for poor, well-drained soils and thrives in mild Mediterranean-like climates, where cool winters and warm, dry summers promote colorful leaf development and compact rosette formation.

Description:
Aeonium ‘Medusa’ forms stunning, symmetrical rosettes up to 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) across. The fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves are green to pale chartreuse with purple to burgundy margins and subtle striping that intensifies in bright light. Over time, rosettes grow on short, woody stems, creating a sculptural appearance. In late spring or early summer, mature rosettes may produce tall inflorescences of small, star-shaped yellow flowers before dying back naturally.

Cultivation:
Zone: 9–11
Temperature: Ideal range 10–25°C; protect from frost and freezing conditions.
Growth Rate: Moderate; growth peaks in cooler, humid seasons.
Soil: Use a well-draining medium composed of pumice, perlite, and loamy soil.
Watering: Water thoroughly during active growth, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Keep nearly dry in dormancy.
Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted, balanced succulent fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during growth.
Light: Provide bright, indirect sunlight or filtered morning sun to enhance leaf coloration; avoid harsh direct sun.
Pests and Diseases: Susceptible to aphids, mealybugs, and fungal rot if overwatered. Ensure good airflow and avoid water sitting in rosettes.

Propagation:
Propagate from stem cuttings or offsets taken during the growing season. Allow cuttings to dry and callus before planting in a gritty, well-drained mix.
