Pot Size: 3.5"
Accepted Scientific Name: Aeonium ‘Green Quing Cheng’ (crested form)
Origin and Habitat
This crested form of Aeonium ‘Green Quing Cheng’ is a cultivated selection derived from horticultural propagation rather than a naturally occurring population. Its parent lineage is associated with Canary Island–type Aeonium species that inhabit rocky volcanic terrain with excellent drainage, mild maritime influence, and cool winters paired with warm, dry summers. The fasciated (crested) growth pattern is a rare mutation maintained through careful vegetative propagation in controlled nursery environments where consistent light, airflow, and low humidity support stable crest formation.
Description
Aeonium ‘Green Quing Cheng’ Crested develops undulating, fan-shaped crests of bright green, spoon-like leaves arranged in densely layered rosettes. Plants typically grow 6–10 inches tall and 8–14 inches wide depending on crest maturity. Leaf colour deepens during cool seasons. Flowers are rarely produced on crested forms, but when present they appear as branched clusters of small, yellow, star-shaped blooms.
Cultivation
Zone: Zones 9–11 recommended.
Temperature: Prefers 10–24°C; protect from temperatures below 2–4°C.
Growth Rate: Slow to moderate depending on season.
Soil: Use a fast-draining mix with high pumice content to promote aeration and prevent rot.
Watering: Water moderately during active growth; reduce significantly during summer dormancy or winter cold. Allow the soil to dry between waterings.
Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted low-nitrogen fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth only.
Light: Provide bright light to full sun in mild climates; use filtered light in higher heat. Indoors, strong light is necessary for compact growth.
Pests and Diseases: Monitor for mealybugs, aphids, and root rot caused by excess moisture. Maintain airflow and avoid waterlogged media.
Propagation
Propagation is done by dividing stable sections of the crest or removing offsets. Allow all cut surfaces to callus before replanting for reliable establishment.
