Accepted Scientific Name: Abromeitiella sp. (Location Tarija)

Origin and Habitat:
Abromeitiella sp. from Tarija originates in the arid, rocky regions of southern Bolivia. This species thrives in high-altitude environments where it endures extreme temperature fluctuations and limited water availability. It is commonly found growing on steep cliffs and rocky outcrops, where its compact form allows it to withstand harsh winds and intense sunlight. The plant’s natural habitat provides excellent drainage and minimal organic matter, making it highly adapted to drought conditions.

Description:
Abromeitiella sp. is a small, clustering bromeliad that forms dense mats of rosettes, each reaching approximately 4 to 6 inches in diameter. Its tightly packed, spiky leaves are bright green, sometimes taking on reddish hues in strong sunlight. The plant produces small, tubular flowers that range in color from pale green to yellow. These flowers emerge on short stalks and provide a striking contrast against the dense foliage.

Cultivation:
Zone: USDA hardiness zones 9-11.
Temperature: Thrives in 10-30°C and can tolerate brief dips to 5°C but should be protected from frost.
Growth Rate: Slow to moderate.
Soil: Requires well-draining soil with pumice to prevent water retention and root rot.
Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Highly drought-tolerant.
Fertilizing: Feed every 2-3 weeks during the growing season with a diluted, balanced fertilizer.
Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade; intense sunlight enhances its compact growth and coloration.
Pests and Diseases: Generally pest-resistant but can be affected by mealybugs. Overwatering may lead to root rot.

Propagation:
Easily propagated by division, as it naturally forms dense offsets. These offsets can be separated and replanted in well-draining soil. Seed propagation is possible but slow, requiring consistent warmth and moisture.
