Haworthia
Haworthias are native to South Africa and have about 80 species and many hundreds of cultivars in the genre. These South African natives are widely collected with some of the variegated cultivars fetching hundred and occasionally thousands of dollars. Many of the well-known cultivars originated in Japan as they were the first to do many crosses. Today cultivars are being create all over the world as the popularity of these plants has grown exponentially These little succulents are very drought tolerant and require very little care once established. They can be a little rot prone when re potted so care must be taken to not over water initially. But once they settle in they are very long lived plants and can provide years of enjoyment. Haworthia’s like mixed a light, or morning sun location. This makes them excellent choice for indoor cultivation. With the shear range of varieties available these plants have a place in every collection from amateur to collector alike.
