Pot Size: 8"

Accepted Scientific Name:
Senecio candicans 'Angel Wings'

Origin and Habitat:
Senecio candicans 'Angel Wings' is a cultivar developed for ornamental use, with parentage traced to coastal regions of Argentina. These habitats are characterized by dry, breezy conditions with poor, well-draining soils. The plant has adapted to withstand wind, salt spray, and intense sun, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping, seaside gardens, and exposed patios. Its resilience and unique appearance have led to its popularity in temperate gardens and container displays across North America and Europe.

Description:
This striking foliage plant typically grows 10–16 inches tall and spreads up to 20 inches wide. Its defining feature is the large, broad, silvery-white leaves that are soft and velvety to the touch, creating a bold textural contrast in mixed plantings. The plant is grown primarily for its foliage; it rarely flowers in cultivation, but when it does, expect small, inconspicuous yellow flowers that may be trimmed off to preserve the leaf display.

Cultivation:
Zone: 8–11
Temperature: Minimum 5°C
Growth rate: Moderate
Soil: Well-draining soil with pumice to improve aeration
Watering: Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the topsoil to dry between watering. Reduce in winter.
Fertilizing: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth.
Light: Full sun to partial shade, but best color and form in bright, indirect light.
Pests and diseases: Generally resistant but may occasionally attract aphids or suffer from root rot if overwatered.

Propagation:
Propagate by softwood cuttings in spring or early summer. Rooting occurs easily in moist pumice-based soil or in water before potting.
