Pot Size: 3.5"
Accepted Scientific Name:
Sedum 'Wildfire'
Origin and Habitat:
Sedum 'Wildfire' is a cultivated variety developed for ornamental use, derived from hardy Sedum species native to Europe and Asia. These species typically inhabit rocky slopes, alpine meadows, and dry grasslands, where they thrive in nutrient-poor, well-drained soils and full sun. The environmental adaptability of these wild types has been retained in 'Wildfire,' which flourishes in similar conditions—ideal for rock gardens, borders, and containers. This cultivar was selected for its vivid coloration and tolerance to drought, poor soils, and harsh sunlight, making it a standout in both home and commercial landscapes.
Description:
Sedum 'Wildfire' is a striking, low-growing succulent reaching about 4 to 6 inches in height and spreading 10 to 12 inches wide. It features fleshy, rounded leaves with a fiery mix of deep red, burgundy, and green, forming dense, ground-hugging mounds. The foliage intensifies in color with increased sun exposure. In late summer to early autumn, it produces clusters of small, star-shaped pink to reddish flowers that rise slightly above the foliage, adding seasonal color and attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.
