Pot Size: 3.5"

Accepted Scientific Name:
Sedum spurium 'Dragon’s Blood'

Origin and Habitat:
Sedum spurium, commonly known as Caucasian stonecrop, originates from the mountainous regions of the Caucasus, where it grows in rocky slopes, crevices, and alpine meadows. These areas experience hot summers, cold winters, and poor, well-draining soils, making the species well-adapted to harsh conditions. 'Dragon’s Blood' is a cultivated variety known for its exceptional foliage color and groundcover performance. It thrives in similar rugged, sun-drenched environments, making it ideal for rock gardens, green roofs, and xeriscapes.

Description:
Sedum spurium 'Dragon’s Blood' is a spreading, mat-forming perennial that grows to about 3 to 6 inches tall and can spread up to 18 inches wide. Its succulent, scalloped leaves emerge green in spring and gradually deepen into a rich burgundy-red, becoming most intense in full sun and cooler temperatures. In mid to late summer, clusters of small, star-shaped red-pink flowers appear, creating a striking contrast against the dark foliage and attracting pollinators.

Cultivation:
Zone: USDA Zones 3 to 9

Growth Rate: Fast
Soil: Prefers gritty, well-drained soil with pumice for aeration and moisture control
Watering: Water moderately during growing season; drought-tolerant once established
Fertilizing: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth
