Accepted Scientific Name: Rebutia heliosa

Origin and Habitat:
Rebutia heliosa is native to the mountainous regions of southern Bolivia, where it grows on rocky outcrops and steep slopes at high altitudes. These areas are characterized by well-draining soils, intense sunlight, and fluctuating temperatures, making the species well-adapted to harsh and arid conditions.

Description:
This small, globular cactus typically reaches 1-2 inches in height and diameter, forming tight, clumping clusters over time. Its body is covered in spirally arranged tubercles with fine, short spines. In spring and summer, Rebutia heliosa produces stunning, funnel-shaped flowers in shades of orange, adding a vibrant touch to its compact form.

Cultivation:
Zone: Suitable for USDA zones 9-11.
Temperature: Prefers temperatures above 10°C; tolerates brief dips to 5°C but not prolonged frost.
Growth Rate: Slow-growing, forming clusters gradually.
Soil: Requires well-draining cactus soil with pumice for aeration and optimal water management.
Watering: Water thoroughly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
Fertilizing: Feed every 2-3 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced cactus fertilizer.
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh, direct sunlight.
Pests and Diseases: May be affected by spider mites and mealybugs. Overwatering can lead to root rot in poorly draining soils.

Germination Info:
Temperature: Maintain a consistent 18-23°C.
Surface Sown: Yes.
