Accepted Scientific Name: Lewisia longipetala hyb. 'Little Raspberry'

Origin and Habitat
Lewisia longipetala hybrids originate from the mountainous regions of western North America, particularly in the Sierra Nevada range. These alpine zones are characterized by well-drained rocky soils, cold winters, and cool, dry summers. The native environment offers plenty of sun, excellent air circulation, and low humidity, conditions that contribute to the plant’s natural resilience and drought tolerance. The hybrid 'Little Raspberry' has been developed for enhanced floral display and garden performance while retaining the toughness of its alpine heritage.

Description
'Little Raspberry' is a compact and low-growing perennial succulent, forming a dense rosette that reaches approximately 3 to 4 inches in height and 6 to 8 inches in spread. The narrow, evergreen leaves are slightly fleshy and form a tight, symmetrical shape. Its standout feature is the profusion of star-shaped flowers, about 1 inch across, which bloom in late spring to early summer. The blossoms are vivid raspberry-pink with pale streaking, held in loose clusters on slender stems just above the foliage, creating a brilliant splash of color.

Cultivation
Zone: Hardy in USDA Zones 4–8
Temperature: Tolerates down to -30°C in winter; prefers summer temperatures under 25°C
Growth Rate: Moderate
Soil: Requires sharply drained soil; a gritty mix with pumice and loam is ideal
Watering: Water sparingly; allow soil to dry between waterings, especially in winter
Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth
Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade; protect from harsh afternoon sun in hotter climates
Pests and Diseases: Generally pest-free; may be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or poorly drained

Propagation
Easily propagated by seed or by division of mature clumps in spring. Seeds should be sown in well-drained soil and lightly covered. Divisions should be taken with care to avoid damaging the fleshy roots and replanted immediately.
