Accepted Scientific Name:
Lewisia cotyledon hybrid 'Sunset Ruby Red'

Origin and Habitat:
Lewisia cotyledon originates from mountainous areas of the western United States, specifically Oregon and northern California. It thrives in rocky outcrops, cliffs, and alpine screes where it is exposed to excellent drainage, cool summer temperatures, and full sun to partial shade. The 'Sunset Ruby Red' variety is a cultivated hybrid developed for ornamental gardens, particularly for use in rockeries and containers. Though not naturally occurring in the wild, it shares the same hardy nature as its wild ancestor, requiring minimal water and thriving in gritty soil.

Description:
This compact rosette-forming succulent reaches about 4 to 6 inches across and blooms on 6 to 8-inch tall stems. The succulent, dark green foliage forms neat rosettes that stay evergreen in mild climates. ‘Sunset Ruby Red’ is prized for its brilliant ruby red, star-shaped flowers that emerge in late spring and continue into early summer. Blooms appear in small clusters and may feature subtle golden centers, adding a striking contrast to the rich flower color.
