Pot Size: 3.5"
Accepted Scientific Name:
Haworthia hybrid 'Blush'
Origin and Habitat:
Haworthia hybrid 'Blush' is a cultivar that originates from hybridization of various Haworthia species, which are native to southern Africa, particularly South Africa. These plants thrive in arid conditions, typically found in rocky and well-drained soils in semi-desert regions. Their natural habitat features direct sunlight but minimal rainfall, making them well-suited for dry, sunny environments. As succulents, they are drought-tolerant and adapted to survive in harsh conditions with limited water availability.
Description:
Haworthia hybrid 'Blush' grows to about 4 to 6 inches in height and width. It forms a compact rosette with fleshy, triangular, and slightly translucent leaves that display a gentle blush of pink or red at the tips, hence the name 'Blush.' The plant remains compact and symmetrical, making it ideal for small spaces. It rarely produces flowers, but when it does, they are small, tubular, and white, adding a delicate touch to the plant. The pinkish hue of the leaves intensifies under stress, such as when the plant is placed in bright light, enhancing its ornamental appeal.
Cultivation:
Zone: 9-11
Temperature: It prefers moderate temperatures ranging from 18°C to 25°C. Can go as low as 5°C. Avoid freezing conditions.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate. This hybrid grows at a steady pace but does not require frequent repotting or trimming.
Soil: Well-draining pumice-based mix ensures good drainage and prevents water retention, which is crucial for the plant’s health.
Watering: Water thoroughly, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.
Fertilizing: Once a month during the growing season.
Light: Light shade, morning sun only.
Pests and diseases: Vulnerable to mealybugs, aphids, and root rot if overwatered.
Propagation: Haworthia hybrid 'Blush' can be propagated from offsets or leaf cuttings. Allow the cut end of leaf cuttings to callous before planting, and keep the soil lightly moist until roots develop.
