Accepted Scientific Name:

Echeveria purpusorum ‘Red’

Origin and Habitat:

Native to Mexico, Echeveria purpusorum is found in dry, rocky environments with well-draining soils. The ‘Red’ variety is a cultivated selection known for its deep red hues that intensify under bright sunlight. In its natural habitat, this species grows in crevices and slopes, where it receives minimal water and full sun exposure. It has adapted to store moisture in its thick leaves, allowing it to withstand drought conditions. Its compact growth habit and striking coloration make it a highly desirable ornamental plant.

Description:

Echeveria purpusorum ‘Red’ forms a small, tight rosette up to 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. The thick, triangular leaves are dark green with red speckles and edges, turning deep red under stress. The surface is slightly textured, giving the plant a unique appearance. In spring and summer, it produces slender flower stalks up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall, bearing tubular, orange-red flowers with yellow tips. The flowers attract pollinators, adding seasonal interest to gardens and collections.
