Accepted Scientific Name:

Echeveria agavoides ‘Ebony’

Origin and Habitat:

Native to Mexico, Echeveria agavoides grows in arid, rocky terrains with well-draining soil and plenty of sunlight. The ‘Ebony’ variety is a highly sought-after cultivar known for its dramatic dark leaf tips. It thrives in dry, warm climates with minimal rainfall, making it well-adapted to drought conditions. In its natural habitat, this species forms dense rosettes, allowing it to conserve moisture and withstand harsh environmental conditions. Its unique coloration develops best under bright light and cooler temperatures.

Description:

Echeveria agavoides ‘Ebony’ forms a tight, symmetrical rosette up to 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter. The thick, pointed leaves are a rich green with deep burgundy to black tips, creating a striking contrast. The intensity of the dark coloration increases with sun exposure. In late spring to summer, it produces tall flower stalks up to 12 inches (30 cm), bearing bell-shaped, coral-red flowers with yellow interiors, attracting pollinators such as bees and hummingbirds.
