Sedum
Sedum is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Crassulaceae, which are commonly known as stonecrops. With up to 470 species this has to be one of the largest succulent genus. If Sedums do not take top spot for numbers of species then it must for range. Sedums can be found on all continents except Australia and Antarctica. They are primary found in the northern hemisphere but extending into the southern hemisphere in Africa and South America. The genus is mostly made up of low growing ground cover species but a small number of tree Sedums are found in Mexico. Sedums have been collected for well over a hundred years. This may be in part because of their large range but most likely due to their adaptability. They are very durable plants with many cold hardy and tender species. In recent years their popularity has exploded and many cultivars are now available. These guys are a must for any collector and if you are looking for a great plant for your deck look no further.
