Origin and Habitat
Campanula portenschlagiana, commonly known as Dalmatian Bellflower, is native to the Dalmatian mountains of Croatia and surrounding areas in the Balkan Peninsula. It naturally inhabits rocky slopes, alpine meadows, stone walls, and crevices where it thrives in well-drained, gritty soils with moderate moisture. This hardy perennial is adapted to cooler climates and can grow in both sunlit and partially shaded environments, making it well-suited for rock gardens and naturalized areas.

Description
Campanula portenschlagiana is a low-growing, mat-forming perennial that reaches 4 to 6 inches in height and spreads up to 20 inches wide. It features small, rounded to heart-shaped green leaves forming a dense ground cover. In late spring to summer, the plant produces an abundance of starry, bell-shaped flowers in vivid violet-blue tones. The blooms cover the foliage, creating a vibrant carpet of color that attracts bees and other pollinators.
