Pot Size: 3.5"
Accepted Scientific Name:
Agave pintilla
Origin and Habitat:
Native to arid regions of Mexico, Agave pintilla is commonly found in rocky terrains at elevations of 1,000 to 2,000 meters. It thrives in areas with minimal rainfall, intense sunlight, and well-draining soils. Its natural habitat consists of desert-like conditions, often with sparse vegetation and extreme temperature variations.
Description:
Agave pintilla is a compact succulent with rosettes reaching 12-18 inches in diameter. Its thick, fleshy leaves feature a striking green to bluish hue adorned with lighter streaks and pronounced marginal teeth. The plant produces a tall flower spike with tubular yellow flowers, typically blooming only once before the main rosette dies, leaving offsets behind.
Cultivation:
Zone: 8a-11
Temperature: Prefers temperatures above 10°C; tolerates brief periods down to 0°C.
Growth Rate: Slow-growing.
Soil: Use a well-draining mix with pumice to prevent root rot.
Watering: Water deeply but infrequently; allow soil to dry completely between waterings.
Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.
Light: Requires full sun to partial shade.
Pests and Diseases: Watch for mealybugs, scale insects, and root rot in poorly draining conditions.
Propagation:
Propagate by removing offsets that form around the base of mature rosettes. Allow offsets to dry for a day or two before planting in well-draining soil.
