The name Stomatium means 'open mouth. These attractive little plants are similar in appearance to the other 'mouth' or 'jaw''-like plants in the Mesembe family. All Stomatiums are native to South Africa with close to 40 species making up the genus. Some species in the genus are quite hardy and can see temps well below zero if kept dry. Most Stomatium’s are opportunistic growers and will continue to grow given adequate water. These undemanding little plants are great for beginner growers and will create nice little clumps in a couple of years.
