Streptocarpus

Streptocarpus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Gesneriaceae. The genus is native to central, eastern and southern Africa, including Madagascar and the Comoro Islands.  These African Violet relatives enjoy dappled light and a warm humid environment.  

Streptocarpus have been cultivated since the mid 1800's with the first cultivars appearing in the late 1800's.  Since then there have been hundreds of crosses with more every year.
