The Saxifraga genus containing over 440 species and is distributed across the northern hemisphere. They generally found in alpine and sub arctic habitat, but a hand full of species can be found in low land forest habitat. They are for the most part shade liking plants and do not like excessive heat and sun. This makes them an excellent choice for shady sections of a rock garden. All Saxifrage flower and the colors can range from white to bright red. With the shear number of species and cultivars there is definitely something for everyone.
