This relative of the lily is often mistaken for a grass and is commonly known as Black Mondo Grass. Ophiopogens planiscapus is native to shady scrub and woodlands of China and Japan. Plant this rhizomatous perennial in a shady to semi shady woodland setting. Makes a stunning contrast when planted with other chartreuses colored ground covers. Plant in evenly moist, humus rich but well drained soil.
